BC to host UMass on Tuesday at 4.
NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team lost to Pittsburgh, 2-0, in a home ACC match at the Newton Soccer Field on Friday night.
It was the Eagles (4-2-0, 0-2-0 ACC) second loss of the season, while Penn State improved to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.
Pittsburgh's freshman Veljko Petkovic led the Panthers with a goal and assist, while goalkeeper Arie Ammann (2-1) posted his second shutout with four saves.
BC's offense was led by freshman Victor Souza and sophomore Jesus Sahagun with two shots apiece. Souza had the Eagles best chance in the first half on a header in the 22nd minute of play.
After Petkovic put Pitt up, 1-0, in the 37th minute, the Eagles had a set piece from 23 yards out to the right of Ammann. Freshman Amos Shapiro-Thompson's shot sailed high over the crossbar.
In the second half, Boston College sophomore Tyshawn Rose shot in the 55th minute from 24 yards out but the Pitt goalkeeper calmly controlled the shot to keep his team up, 1-0.
In the 80th minute, BC goalkeeper Giacomo Piccardo punched a shot from Sito Sena over the crossbar to keep the Eagles in the match. Pitt continued pressing forward and broke through the defense as Alexander Dexter scored on a through ball from Petkovic as Panthers went up 2-0 with five minutes to play.
