Eagles fall in first ACC match of the season at NC State
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Boston College men's soccer team fell to NC State, 1-0, in the first ACC match of the 2019 season at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday night.
It was the Eagles (4-1-0, 0-1-0 ACC) first loss of the season, while NC State improved to 3-1-1 (1-0-0 ACC).
NC State scored in the 23rd minute of action and it stood as the game-winner.
The Eagles had two chances in the final 15 minutes to tie the match. A shot by Michael Suski in the 72nd minute and a header by Stefan Sigurdarson with four minutes to play just went wide.
The Wolfpack out shot the Eagles, 9-7, in the match. BC was edged in corner kicks, 4-2.
Boston College (4-1-0, 0-1-0) will host ACC foe Pittsburgh on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Newton Soccer Field (5 p.m.).

GAME NOTES
- Boston College had seven shots in the game, while NC State managed nine.
- The Eagles had two corner kicks to four for NC State.
- BC freshman goalkeeper Giacomo Piccardo (4-1) made four saves in the loss.
- Tonight's loss is the second consecutive BC loss vs. NC State. The Eagles defeated NC State last year in the regular season (1-0), but fell to the Wolfpack in the first round of the 2018 ACC Tournament (3-1).
- BC leads the overall series, 8-7-3.
- Boston College started six freshman vs. NC State. Stefan Sigurdarson, Michael Suski, Amos Shapiro-Thompson, Victor Souza and Giacomo Piccardo remained in the starting lineup. Freshman Alejandro Zimmermann not only saw his first collegiate action, he started in the midfield for the Eagles.
- The Eagles backline continues to be ironmen. All four defenders – Joe Kellett, Heigar Aegisson, David Longo and Victor Souza logged 90 minutes of action in the match. Midfielder Amos Shapiro-Thompson also played the full 90.
- The Eagles were without sophomore midfielder Kristofer Konradsson for the second consecutive game. Konradsson was a preseason ACC All-ACC selection.
