
Boston College Suffers First Loss to Kansas

AJ Dillon rushes for 151 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries
AJ Dillon rushed for a season-high 151 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. The touchdown gives him 28 for his career, tying him for third with Andre Williams on BC's career rushing TD list.
Anthony Brown finished the game 18-for-36 for 195 yards and a touchdown. The junior signal caller also caught a 12-yard TD pass from wideout CJ Lewis in the second quarter. Korab Idrizi hauled in two passes for 28 yards, including his second touchdown of the season. Kobay White and Jake Burt led the Eagles with three receptions apiece.
Defensively, Mehdi El-Attrach registered 10 tackles on the night (three solo) and an interception.  Mike Palmer and Joe Sparacio each had seven tackles.
On the opening drive, Dillon carried the ball six times for 52 yards - including a season-long 31-yard rush. The junior All-American found the end zone from two yards out and Aaron Boumerhi converted the point-after to make it 7-0.
Kansas turned the ball over on its second play from scrimmage, as El-Attrach intercepted Carter Stanley's pass at the Jayhawks' 44-yard line, returning it 17 yards. Boumerhi booted a 40-yard field goal, making it 10-0 Eagles less than four minutes into the game.
The Jayhawks got on the board with 3:27 left in the quarter, as Stanley found Jack Luavasa on an 18-yard strike, capping an eight-play, 78-yard drive which made it 10-7.
Brown connected with Idrizi from 20 yards out for the senior's second TD of the season, capping a 10-play, 73-yard drive. Running back David Bailey broke open with a 26-yard run, setting the Eagles up in the red zone. BC would lead 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Kansas opened the second quarter with a quick score. Jamahl Horne set up the drive with a 37-yard kick return and the Jayhawks covered the remaining 48 yards on three plays, capped by a goal line run by Hudson Hall, making it 17-14.
The Jayhawks took their first lead of the night with 3:41 remaining in the half, as Stanley found Andrew Parchment on a four-yard fade route. KU covered 81 yards on 11 plays on the scoring drive, thanks to a pair of 21-yard pass plays to Kawmie Lassiter.
BC marched down the field on its next drive, as Brown linked up with Hunter Long on a 42-yard passing play. After a pair of Bailey two-yard rushes and an eight-yard pass to Idrizi, Brown found the end zone as a receiver, taking a 12-yard pass from wideout Lewis to take a 24-21 lead with 45 seconds to play.
On KU's final drive of the half, Khalil Herbert rushed 82 yards on first down, setting up a three-yard TD catch from Stanley to Parchment. The Jayhawks led, 28-24, at the half. The two teams combined for 623 yards of combined offense and 29 first downs through the first 30 minutes of play.
Kansas opened the second half with three straight scoring drives - two touchdowns and a 30-yard field goal - extending its lead to 41-24 with :35 remaining in the third quarter. The Jayhawks made it 48-24 with 5:44 left in regulation.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boston College rushed for 228 yards on the night. In addition to Dillon's 151 yards, David Bailey registered 25 yards on seven carries, while Anthony Brown gained 18 yards on five rushes.
- Travis Levy finished with 205 all-purpose yards - 16 rushing and 189 on kickoff returns.
- Hunter Long's 42-yard reception in the second quarter was the longest of his career.
- Next on the career touchdown list for AJ Dillon is William Green ('01), who ranks second all-time in BC annals with 33 rushing scores. Â
- Graduate student Aaron Boumerhi booted a 40-yard field goal in the first quarter. It was his longest FG of the season and the 11th of his career from at least 40 yards.
- Grant Carlson punted four times for 166 yards - and a long kick of 50 yards.
- BC was 10-of-19 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth down. The Eagles logged 26 first downs vs. the Jayhawks. Kansas was 8-of-15 on third down and made 23 first downs on the night.
- BC is now 0-1 all-time versus Kansas and 22-29-1 versus opponents that currently make up the Big 12.
- The Eagles were 3-for-5 in red zone attempts. KU was 8-for-8.
- BC averaged 5.1 yards per play (88 total plays) on the night.
- Boston College travels to Rutgers on Saturday, Sept. 21. Kickoff time is set for noon ET and the game can be seen live on Big Ten Network. The BC Learfield IMG Sports Network will air the game on WEEI 850 AM, beginning with the pregame show 30 minutes prior to kickoff.
