
No. 13 Eagles Win Season Opener at Providence, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 13 Boston College field hockey team defeated Providence on Friday, Aug. 30 at the Lennon Family Field in Providence, Rhode Island, 2-1. Leading the way for the Eagles was junior Fusine Govaert and Margo Carlin, who each scored goals for Boston College.

Providence would open the scoring first, where Olivia Ward would score nine minutes into the game during a scrum in front of the cage.

Govaert scored off a short corner early in the second period, receiving the ball from freshman Charlotte Von Huelsen at the top of the circle. Junior Elizabeth Warner played a perfect injection to Von Huelsen, who's one touch put the ball in the right spot for Govaert to hit home a low shot off the corner.

The two teams would then go scoreless for the next 30 minutes of the match, before Carlin would hit home the game-winner into the lower left-hand corner off an incredible pass from Fusine Govaert with 11 minutes to play.

Jonna Kennedy in net would make three saves on the match and earn her first victory of the season.
