Women's soccer kicks of the BC 2019-20 academic year with a Thursday night meeting against UMass in Newton.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team is set to get the 2019-20 BC Athletics home slate underway on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
The Eagles' season opener against UMass will be the first Boston College home contest of the new academic year – and the first of three home games in seven days for the women's soccer program. The game, which is the first for the Eagles under head coach Jason Lowe, also marks the first time BC and UMass will square off since the 2002 season.
The game will be available for streaming on ACCNX, which streams live on the ESPN App.

ABOUT UMASS
• UMass, tabbed to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, went 11-6-1 in 2018 ... the 11 wins marked the program's highest win total since 2011.
• The team returns its top three scorers from last season ... UMass posted its most points (120) and goals (37) since the 2001 season last year.
• Junior Jenny Hipp was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference team ... the Frankfurt, Germany native was an all-conference first-team selection in 2018 after recording 20 points on seven goals and six assists.
• The Minutewomen played a two-game preseason slate, dropping a 2-1 exhibition game at Army and falling 4-1 to UConn in Amherst.
• Jason Dowiak enters his second year as head coach of the Minutewomen.
SERIES HISTORY VS UMASS
• Boston College and UMass have met 15 times, with the Minutewomen holding an edge of 1-13-1 in the all-time series.
• The teams have not met since the 2002 season, when BC earned its first win of the series with a 1-0 home win.
• This marks the seventh time that BC and UMass have met in the Eagles' season-opener.
• In the first meeting between the two teams in 1981, the squads battled to a 2-2 tie ... a 1982 clash resulted in a 1-1 tie before the Minutewomen then took the next 13 meetings before BC's win in 2002.
• The Eagles and Minutewomen have clashed in at least six different locations ... BC has traveled to UMass on nine occasions, hosted two home games and then met UMass in three confirmed neutral site locations (with unconfirmed sites in 1981 and 1987 matchups).

• Since 1981, the Eagles are 20-14-4 all-time in the first game of the season.
• This is the seventh time that BC and UMass have met in the Eagles' season-opener.
• BC has not lost a season-opener since 2006, going 10-0-2 since a 1-0 loss at Boston University on Aug. 25, 2006.

ABOUT HEAD COACH JASON LOWE
• Jason Lowe was named the program's fifth head coach on Jan. 9, 2019.
• Lowe arrived on the Heights after serving on the coaching staff at Wake Forest since 2014, including 2017 and 2018 as associate head coach.
• The Shaker Heights, Ohio native helped the Demon Deacons reach the NCAA tournament Round of 32 in 2017 and the Sweet 16 in 2018.
• Prior to Wake Forest, Lowe served as an assistant coach at Alabama for five seasons and two years at Emory.
• Lowe served as a goalkeeper for the Wake Forest men's soccer team from 1994-97.
• In addition to receiving his bachelor's degree in 1998, Lowe also earned his MBA from Wake Forest in 2002.
2019 CAPTAINS
• The Eagles will be led by the trio of Gaby Carreiro, Erin Convery and Kayla Jennings in 2019.
• Carreiro and Jennings are now in their second year as captains after first receiving an armband in 2018 ... Convery is a first-year captain.
BC REWIND
• Boston College finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 14-5-1 and a conference mark of 6-3-1.
• The Eagles went 11-2-0 in Newton, including a 5-0-0 mark in ACC play.
• BC got off to the best start in program history at 10-0-0 en route to the program's 19th NCAA tournament bid.
• Among ACC schools, BC ranked fourth in goals for (44), goals allowed (16), scoring margin (1.40), goals against average (0.80) and tied for fourth in shutouts (10).
• The Eagles fell to Clemson, 1-0, in the ACC tournament quarterfinal round but earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament ... BC dropped the first-round game to Hofstra, 4-1.
