Junior outfielder named to All-ACC Academic Baseball Team.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Boston College junior outfielder Joe Suozzi was selected to the ACC Baseball All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Suozzi, an economics major in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences, is the 13th Eagle to earn All-ACC Academic Team recognition since BC joined the league in 2006.
A walk-on as a sophomore in the fall of 2017, Suozzi was selected by his teammates to wear the No. 8 jersey this season, which honors former captain Sonny Nictakis, who lost his courageous seven-year battle with Hodgkin's disease in the summer of 2000. Until 2011, his No. 8 had not been worn since his final season.
Suozzi split his time between right field and designated hitter this season, with a brief stint in center field, before taking over as the starting right fielder for the final quarter of the schedule. He hit .282 with a .363 on-base percentage and .423 slugging percentage on eight doubles, two triples and three home runs. Suozzi went 7-for-12 with a home run and a double at the ACC Championship en route to being voted to the All-Tournament Team.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released later this month.
