CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Reigning recipient Sam Apuzzo is joined by classmate Dempsey Arsenault as two of the four finalists for the 2019 Honda Award for Lacrosse, given annually to the top female athlete in her respective sport.
After receiving the honor last year, Apuzzo had another standout season in her collegiate finale, putting up 94 goals and 30 assists for 124 points on the year and earning her second straight ACC Attacker of the Year title. She also led the Eagles to become the first-ever team to surpass 400 draw wins, winning a program record 191 herself over the season. She ended the season as the second-most productive point scorer in the nation, only behind teammate Kenzie Kent, en route to the Eagles' third consecutive national championship game appearance and earning a spot as a Tewaaraton finalist and for the second straight year.
Arsenault joins as the second-best goal producer on the team, playing a crucial balance between offense and defense for the Eagles over their 22-2 overall season. Arsenault totaled 92 points on the season while picking up a team-high 45 ground balls and winning a solid 100 draw controls. She also became BC's first-ever ACC Midfielder of the Year and joined Apuzzo on the list of five Tewaaraton finalists, marking the first time in program history that the Eagles had two athletes on the list of finalists.Â
