June 11, 2019 | Men's Hockey
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Former BC men's hockey captain Patrick Brown hoisted the AHL's Calder Cup this past weekend as the captain of the Charlotte Checkers, the affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes. The Checkers defeated the Chicago Wolves on the road in Game 5 on Saturday for a 4-1 series victory.
It marks the second straight year that a former Eagle has captained the AHL champion after Ben Smith won the trophy last year with the Toronto Marlies.
Brown had five goals and five assists with a plus-7 rating in 11 playoff games for the Checkers. He was also called up for eight of the Hurricanes' postseason games as Carolina reached the Eastern Conference Final.
In his third season as the Charlotte captain, the forward skated in 70 regular season games with 19 goals and 16 assists for 35 points. He has played in 36 career NHL contests with the Hurricanes.
At Boston College, Brown registered career highs of 15 goals and 15 assists during the 2013-14 season while wearing the 'C' as a senior. He won the 2012 national championship with the Eagles and a pair of Hockey East championships.
