Six Former Eagles to Skate for U.S. at IIHF World Championships

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Six former Boston College men's hockey players will compete for the United States at the 2019 IIHF Men's World Championships over the next two weeks. Forwards Johnny Gaudreau, Chris Kreider and Colin White, defenseman Noah Hanifin, and goaltenders Cory Schneider and Thatcher Demko will represent BC in Slovakia.
Team USA opens the tournament with a preliminary round matchup against the host Slovakia on Friday (May 10) at 2:15 p.m. (ET). All games will air live on NHL Network with the Bronze and Gold Medal Games scheduled for Sunday, May 26. The U.S. will also face France, Finland, Denmark, Great Britain, Germany and Canada in the prelims.
The United States defeated Germany 5-2 in a pre-tournament game on Tuesday. Schneider made 15 saves on 17 shots in the first two periods, while Demko stopped all eight shots he faced in the third period. Gaudreau was named the U.S. Player of the Game with a goal and an assist, and Hanifin added two points in the victory.
The U.S. has medaled in three of the last six World Championships (bronze in 2013, 2015 and 2018), its best medal stretch since the 1950's.
