BC rowers claim Third Varsity Eight Petite Final.
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Boston College rowing team completed its 2018-19 season at the ACC Championship over the weekend. Junior Kylie Kraemer, who rowed on the Varsity Eight boat, earned All-ACC Second Team honors.
BC's Second Varsity Four reached the grand final and placed sixth overall. They raced well in both the heat and final with a time of 7:54.013. The Eagles claimed a victory in the Third Varisty Eight petite final with a time of 7:17.075. The Varsity Four raced well in the petite final to finish second, eighth overall.
"1V and 2V 8's raced hard, were competitive but lost traction in the second 1k," recalled head coach Steve Fiske. "Both boats were extremely young and gained a lot of experience over the season and at ACC's. While the team results at ACC's were not what we were aiming for, all boats raced hard, showed grit throughout the year and the team is motivated for progress and more boat speed next year."
In a tightly-contested battle, which came down to the final race, the Virginia Cavaliers earned their 10th consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship on Saturday morning at Lake Hartwell. The Cavaliers edged Duke by five points (95-90) in the overall teams standings thanks to the first-place finish in the First Varsity Eight and have now won 19 titles in the 20 years of the championship's existence.
Syracuse finished third with 75 points, followed by Clemson and Notre Dame who tied for fourth with 58 points each. Louisville was sixth with 41 points, Miami and North Carolina ended in a tie for seventh (30) and Boston College rounded out the group with 18 points.
Duke's Megan Cooke Carcagno was named the ACC Coach of the Year for the second time and the Blue Devils' Amelia Shunk, the stroke for the ACC Champion First Varsity Four, was tabbed the ACC Freshman of the Year. Virginia's ACC Champion First Varsity Eight composed of coxswain: Izzi Weiss, Stroke: Reilly White, Heidi Long, Anna Fairs, Emily Ashton, Jamey Bulloch, Sophie Kershner, Lizzie Trull and Bow: Carrie Warner garnered ACC Crew of the Year.
