Sam Apuzzo, Kenzie Kent, Dempsey Arsenault and Elizabeth Miller have been named to the Tewaaraton Top-25 nominee list
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Four standouts from the Boston College women's lacrosse team have been selected as 2019 Tewaaraton Nominees, as announced by the committee Thursday afternoon. All four were named to the initial Watch List released earlier in the season as reigning honoree Sam Apuzzo is joined by Kenzie Kent, Dempsey Arsenault and Elizabeth Miller on the list of 25 nominees. The Tewaaraton Award is given annually to the nation's best college lacrosse player.
Last year, Apuzzo became Boston College's first-ever recipient of the sports highest honor, capping off an 88-goal, 129-point junior campaign while shattering program records across the board. The senior captain has been one of the top two scorers in the nation throughout her final season, putting up 98 points through 18 games. She has been the most consistent piece of the offense for the Eagles, contributing 385 draw control wins over her career as a three-time Tewaaraton nominee.
Kent, similarly, has led the nation in assists consistently all season and currently holds the second-highest point total in the NCAA, totaling 94 on the season. The graduate student has put up 229 points so far in her career, despite having played just 46 games as a dual-sport athlete, joining the lacrosse team after finishing her seasons with the Boston College women's ice hockey team.
Arsenault, playing a crucial balance between offense and defense, earned a spot on last year's Watch List while putting up 103 points and winning 111 draws for the Eagles as a junior. Defensively, she led the team in ground ball pickups, grabbing 59 on the year and totaling 159 over her career, good for fifth all-time in program history. The senior just met the 200-point mark in her career, just the ninth Eagle to reach the milestone.
Miller comes in as one of just three defenders named to the list as a four-year starter for the Eagles. The senior earned a place on the Watch List after being named IWLCA Defender of the Year last year and has picked up three All-America team placements. The Eagles' defensive core, with Miller leading the way, have held opponents to just 170 goals so far this season.
The four Tewaaraton Nominees marks a program-best for Boston College and shares the most nominees of any Division I institution on the list with Maryland.
