The lacrosse team looks for their second consecutive trip to the championship
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – After defeating 8-seed Louisville in dominant fashion in the ACC Quarterfinals, the No. 1 Boston College women's lacrosse team is set to take on 4-seed Syracuse for the first game of the semifinals. First draw is set for Friday, April 26 at 5:00 pm at Alumni Stadium.
The unsung heroes for the Eagles stepped into the spotlight en route to the back-to-back wins over Louisville, as Cara Urbank led all point-scorers with a hat trick and three helpers. Sophomore Jordan Lappin recorded her third career hat trick to follow right behind as juniors Sheila Rietano and Kate Taylor each added a pair of goals in the effort. The Eagles dominated, 15-4, as sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Ngai allowed zero goals through the opening frame. Four goals marks the smallest number allowed by the Eagles this year.
As Syracuse made their debut in Chestnut Hill, the Orange held a 7-goal advantage at the half, led by their 7-goal run as Emily Hawryschuk found the back of the net four times. Virginia bounced back, tallying three goals to open the second half. The Cavaliers found three unanswered goals to round out the contest but couldn't find the footing needed to complete the comeback.
The Eagles and Orange met in the first conference meeting of 2019 for both teams back in February. The Eagles seemed to be tripped up at first as the game would prove to be the only one of the regular season in which the No. 1 team in the country would be held to a deficit at halftime. Out of the break, the Eagles looked dominant as Sam Apuzzo tallied seven goals to gain the lead and win. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Daly had nine second-half saves en route to the comeback win.
The winner of the Eagles-Orange matchup moves to face the winner of North Carolina-Duke in the ACC Championship game on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
