
BC Baseball Loses Beanpot Semi to UMass

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team fell to Massachusetts in the Beanpot semifinal, 6-2, at the Harrington Athletics Village on Tuesday afternoon. The loss evened the Eagles at 14-14 overall, while the Minutemen move into the championship round at Fenway Park on April 17 with a record of 6-15.

Tied 2-2 at the end of four, UMass put three runs on the board in the top of the fifth with two hits, two walks and a hit batsman against BC sophomore lefty Will Hesslink (Shelburne, Vt.); the first Eagle reliever of the day. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to right fielder Noah Kessinger put the Minutemen back in front and shortstop Ryan Lever followed with a two-run single as all three runs scored with two outs.

Right-hander Brad Collins (2-2) was the third pitcher of the day for the Minutemen. He cruised through his first three innings of work on the way to a 3.2-inning appearance as he left the game in the eighth with the bases loaded, but RHP Casey Aubin stranded the Eagles to send the game to the ninth.

Hesslink (0-1) took the loss in one inning of work. Freshman right-hander Travis Lane (Georgetown, Mass.) made his first career start and allowed two runs on two hits and five walks with one strikeout in four innings.
