April 17, 2019 | Softball
Senior pitcher Kendra Friedt lead Eagles to victory.
AMHERST, Mass. – Senior Kendra Friedt earned her first win of the season as she struck out four of the seven batters she faced to lead Boston College past UMass, 6-2, on Wednesday at Sortino Field on the campus of UMass-Amherst.
The Eagles (15-25, 4-11 ACC) had 11 hits, six runs, four RBI and just one error in the win. Boston College scored two runs in the second inning on a single from Carly Severini and a passed ball scored Gianna Boccagno.
BC's bats went silent until the eighth. Sophomore Gianna Randazza and Carly Severini walked and with two on and one out, freshman Kennedy Labshere placed a single to center which scored the go ahead run. Severini and Labshere would cross the plate on an error by the UMass infielder off a ground ball from Lexi DiEmmanuele. She would score the final run in the eighth off a fielder's choice and BC held a 6-2 lead.
Friedt (1-1), who entered the game in the seventh and struck out the side, took the ball in the eighth. The first batter grounded out and Friedt got the second batter looking on a third strike. With two out, Friedt walked the next batter but forced Kaitlyn Stavinoha to ground out to Jenna Ergle to end the game.
UMass tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning on one hit and two walks.
Freshman pitcher Susannah Anderson was solid for 5.1 innings as she scattered five hits with two strikeouts. Camryn Dolby faced just five batters and walked two before Friedt came in to close out the game.
Labshere led the BC on offense with three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Carly Severini and Emme Martinez each had two hits, while DiEmmanuele, Allyson Moore, Severini and Martinez all registered an RBI in the win.
