The lacrosse team looks for their first program win in Evanston on Saturday night
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 1 Boston College lacrosse team looks for their eighth consecutive win as they head to Evanston, Ill. to take on No. 5 Northwestern, Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
The Eagles hold the all-time series advantage, 4-3, but have yet to find victory on Wildcat turf. The Wildcats are on a two-game win streak over BC, as the teams rarely cross paths. Their first meeting was in 1983 when Northwestern took the first win before suffering four straight losses courtesy of the Eagles.
Boston College is coming off of a statement win over their toughest opponent to-date in No. 12 Navy. The Eagles tallied a convincing 18-5 win, led by a season-best eight goals from senior Sam Apuzzo. Classmate Dempsey Arsenault tallied three of her own goals and ended the evening with six points after reigning in three assists as well. Sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Ngai held up for her third straight start, capturing 12 saves for the third time this season.
Eagles top three different individual ranks in the current NCAA atmosphere: Apuzzo holds the top spot in goals (39), goals per game (5.57), points (53) and points per game (7.57) while Kenzie Kent holds the top spot in assists (29) and assists per game (4.14). Apuzzo's goals and points are a full 10 each more than the second-ranked student-athlete.
The Wildcats hold a 4-2 record so far in 2019, only falling to the likes of No. 4 Syracuse in overtime and No. 3 North Carolina. They are currently led by four student-athletes with double-digit goals in Lauren Gilbert (19), Selena Lasota (13), Lindsey McKone (12) and Claire Quinn (12).
Following Saturday night's matchup, the Eagles welcome No. 21 Georgetown to Newton for a noon draw on Saturday, March 16.
