LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Boston College won its second straight match by a 5-2 final score on Sunday, defeating Louisville on the road in ACC play and matching its win total from last season. The Eagles (13-7, 3-7 ACC) clinched the victory in No. 6 singles with a three-set win from Dasha Possokhova at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"Every ACC match is so competitive," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "Today was another great effort by our team. We handled a challenging environment on the road with poise and played well."
The doubles point was extremely tight and came down to the No. 2 matchup as each team won 6-4 at No. 1 and 3. Laura Lopez and Elene Tsokilauri needed a tiebreaker to beat Raven Neely and Diana Wong 7-6 as Boston College took a 1-0 lead into singles.
Neely evened the score by defeating Natasha Irani in No. 3 singles, but the Eagles stormed ahead 3-1 following convincing 6-2, 6-3 victories from senior captain Jackie Urbinati and Lopez in the No. 2 and 5 slots.Â
Aleksandra Mally cut the BC lead to 3-2 with a three-set win over Tsokilauri, but Possokhova responded by losing just four games in her final two sets against Dina Chaika as the junior sealed the match.
No. 99 Kylie Wilcox added another point in No. 1 singles when Sena Suswam was forced to retire in the third set after five games.
Boston College hosts 29th-ranked Miami and Pittsburgh in a pair of key ACC matches next weekend on Friday and Sunday on the Heights.
