March 25, 2019 | Baseball, Boston College Athletics, Softball
Martinez helped softball to a 4-2 week while Pelio led baseball to a win over No. 20 Clemson
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College baseball freshman Mason Pelio and softball sophomore Emme Martinez have been named the Nissan Eagles of the Week for their performances this past week.
Â
Pelio started and threw 6.2 innings in BC's 3-2 win over No. 20 Clemson on Sunday afternoon. The right-hander limited the Tigers to one unearned run with a bases-loaded double play and a strikeout in the first to get around a leadoff-error. Pelio (3-1) was in control for the remainder of his outing as he stranded seven base runners through six innings. He left with two down in the seventh as he allowed just the one unearned run for the game on four hits and five walks with a career-high eight strikeouts.
Â
In a week in which the softball team went 4-2, Martinez was 9-for-14 at the plate. Martinez, who played both catcher and third base for the Eagles this week, drove in six runs and had 13 total bases to go with her .643 average. Against Syracuse in Sunday, she was 4-for-4 with three RBIs to follow up her Saturday performance in which she was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Martinez was 8-for-10 in the series with the Orange, driving in six runs and smacking four doubles.
