
No. 15 Florida State Slips Past Eagles in Final Set

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College took 15th-ranked Florida State to the final set in singles on Friday afternoon, but the Seminoles outlasted the Eagles for a 4-3 ACC victory at the Flynn Recreation Complex. BC fell to 11-6 overall and 2-6 in ACC play, while FSU improved to 14-3 (6-1 ACC).
Andrea Garcia won the clinching match for Florida State in No. 6 singles, coming back to defeat BC rookie Laura Lopez 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 to break a 3-3 deadlock.
Boston College trailed 3-0 after losing the doubles point, followed by the No. 1 and 4 singles matches in straight sets. Jackie Urbinati pulled out her No. 3 singles matchup against Nandini Das as she took the third set by a narrow 7-5 margin. Kylie Wilcox then dug deep to clinch her match against Emanuelle Salas, winning a third set tiebreaker to keep the Eagles alive.
After losing a second set tiebreak to extend her match in the No. 5 slot, Elene Tsokilauri dispatched of Juliana Mikulski 6-1 in the third set to knot the overall score at 3-3. Lopez won the opening set of the decisive match 6-2 and had a lead in the second set, but Garcia rebounded to take the second set 7-5 before sealing the win 6-3 in the third.
The Eagles fly to Atlanta to face No. 37 Georgia Tech in ACC competition on Sunday (March 24) at 12 p.m.
