Boccagno’s Grand Slam Sinks Quinnipiac, 8-0

BC to host Providence on Wednesday at 4.
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Boston College freshman Gianna Boccagno hit her first career grand slam to lead the Eagles past non-conference foe Quinnipiac, 8-0, in five innings at the Harrington Athletics Village on Tuesday afternoon.
Boston College improved to 8-14 on the season, while Quinnipiac dropped to 4-15. BC will host Providence tomorrow at 4 p.m. Fans can watch the game on the ACC Network Extra.
Boccagno, who leads the team with six home runs, came to the plate in the fourth inning with the bases loaded. On a 3-and-1 count, Boccagno sent the ball over the center field fence to score Emme Martinez, Jenna Ergle and Lexi DiEmmanuele scored to give BC a 7-0 lead.
The Eagles scored the eighth and deciding run in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice with runners on second and third. Ellie Mataya, who walked and moved to second on a single by senior Carly Severini. Mataya and Severini were successful on a double steal. Freshman Gianna Randazza hit an infield ground ball scoring Mataya for the 8-0 victory.
Freshman pitcher Susannah Anderson went four innings, held Quinnipiac scoreless and struck out two batters. Freshman Camryn Dolby entered the game in the fifth inning and struck out the side.
