Eagles grab both spots as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior captain Dempsey Arsenault and sophomore Abbey Ngai have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference women's lacrosse Players of the Week following a stint of two top-15 wins for the No. 1 Eagles this past week. The honors mark the second time this season that Eagles have claimed both spots in the weekly conference awards.
Â
Arsenault claimed Offensive Player of the Week nods as she posted 10-goals, three assists, four ground balls, and six draw control wins over two wins for the Eagles. In a convincing 18-5 win at Navy, the senior midfielder notched three goals and helped on three others to total six points on the evening while picking up two ground balls and getting control of two draws. She snapped her previous single game career-high against a top-5 team, as she was the top goal-producer at Northwestern on Saturday with seven goals. She also picked up two ground balls and grabbed control of four draws in the win in Evanston. This weeks' selection marks the second time in her career that she has received Player of the Week accolades.
Â
Ngai reigned in Defensive Player of the Week recognition after a 16-save performance over the two contests. The sophomore has four wins over her four career starts, headlined by a .706 save percentage this past week at Navy. Ngai also picked up five ground balls and caused one turnover over the two top-ranked contests. This marks the first time that she has earned weekly conference honors over her career.Â
Â
The Eagles maintained their No. 1 ranking across all national polls following the two-win week, garnering all 25 first-place votes from the IWLCA. The squad looks to continue their run when they take on No. 21 Georgetown on Saturday, March 16 at noon in Newton.
