BC looking for big performances in the 400m, 800m, mile, and triple jump
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The 2019 IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championship is taking place this weekend, March 2-3, at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
A total of 10 members of the Boston College squad are set to compete in the 400m, 800m, mile run, and the triple jump. BC has four entrants in the 800m and mile run, respectively.
"We are taking 10 of our strongest individuals to the IC4A Championships and we are showing great depth in the 800 and the mile with four qualifiers in each of those events," said head coach Matt Kerr. "Our goals are simple - qualify for finals, put points on the board and contend for individual titles."
The first event of the weekend for the Eagles comes on Saturday morning, as the preliminary heats of the mile start at 10:30 am. Ian Ritchie, Ben Osipow, Sean Burke, and Erik Linden will toe the start line for BC. Both Burke and Ritchie are coming off excellent performances at the ACC Championship last weekend. Â
Burke narrowly missed setting a new BC standard in the 5,000m, crossing the line in a personal-best 14:11.99 - just three-tenths of a season off the school record. Ritchie earned a spot in the finals of the mile at the ACC Championship last weekend, clocking 4:09.21 - good for a ninth-place finish. Osipow (4:11.16 seed time) and Linden (4:13.16) have also raced well this season and could contend for valuable team points.
At 11:10 am, Marcus Manson will compete in the trials of the 400m run. His best time of the 2019 indoor campaign was a 48.76, clocked at the Terrier Classic at BU on Jan. 25.
Twenty-five minutes later, the opening heats of the 800m will take to the track. BC will have four runners - Matt Morano, Russell Wells, Colin Trigani, and Andrew Willis - set to start. Morano enters the IC4A weekend having run his fastest time of the season on the BU track, clocking 1:51.23 on January 19. Wells has also posted a sub-1:52 seed time - 1:51.67 - finishing close behind Morano at the same mid-January meet. Trigani (1:53.94) and Willis (1:54.47) are also looking to close out the 2019 indoor season with their best performances.
On Sunday, Avery McKenzie competes in the triple jump, beginning at 9:30 am. McKenzie enters competition having put forth a leap of 14.92m (48'11.5"). McKenzie placed eighth at ACC's last weekend.
