Â
AUSTIN, Texas – The Boston College softball team was defeated by No. 16 Texas, 8-0, in five innings on Saturday afternoon at the Texas Classic.
Â
How It Happened:
Â
Texas started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when a walk and a hit by pitch led to an RBI-double off the bat of Miranda Elish. With runners on second and third, Shannon Rhodes roped a double to the right field wall, clearing the bases and giving the Longhorns the early 3-0 advantage.
Â
Emme Martinez broke out the stick in the top of the fourth inning, ripping a double to the left field wall. Martinez was stranded as the Eagles were retired to end the inning.
Â
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Texas loaded the bases with back-to-back singles from Rhodes and Slack, and a pinch-hit walk from Espinosa. Janae Jefferson dropped in a single to left field to plate two runners. The next Longhorn hitter roped a double down the first base line to give Texas a 7-0 lead. With the eight-run, fifth inning run rule threatening, Taylor Ellswroth ended the game with a sacrifice fly to center field.
