Eagles Fall at No. 11 Notre Dame in ACC Opener

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Boston College had its three-match winning streak snapped by 11th-ranked Notre Dame on Friday with a 6-1 defeat in its ACC opener.
Junior Derek Austin remained unbeaten in the spring season, defeating Richard Ciamarra in the No. 1 singles match following a third set tiebreaker. Max Mendelsohn also took his singles match to a third set tiebreaker before falling to Tristan McCormick 10-8, while Conor Mullins dropped his third set to ND's William Howells.Â
The Fighting Irish began the conference matchup by winning the doubles point with 6-1 and 6-3 victories from the No. 2 and 3 slots.Â
Boston College (3-2, 0-1 ACC) returns home on Sunday (Feb. 10) to host No. 13 Virginia and Merrimack at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The matches are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the Heights.Â
