Eagles Drop ACC Home Opener to Virginia, Sweep Merrimack

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's tennis team fell to No. 13 Virginia 7-0 in its ACC home opener on Sunday but rebounded with a 7-0 victory over Merrimack at the Flynn Recreation Complex.Â
The Eagles dropped the doubles point to the Cavaliers, but had their bottom three singles players take their matches to a third set. Conor Mullins, Sean Mullins, and Wills Tutecky all dropped their tiebreakers as UVA swept the match. Derek Austin suffered his first defeat of the spring in No. 1 singles to Brandon Nakashima.
Against Merrimack, BC lost just six games in the doubles matches and followed by winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Peter Campana and Nicolas deQuesada earned spots in the lineup and collected victories in the No. 5 and 6 slots.Â
The Eagles (4-3, 0-2 ACC) continue conference play on Friday (Feb. 15) as they host Louisville at 5 p.m.
