The lacrosse team heads to Amherst to take on the Minutewomen
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 1 Boston College women's lacrosse team looks to stay undefeated as they head to Amherst to take on Massachusetts on Thursday. First draw is set for 3 p.m.
Most recently, the Eagles secured their No. 1 spot with a comeback win over conference foe Syracuse, 14-12. The Eagles found themselves down 7-2 early in the first half, but pushed forward with a seven goal effort from Sam Apuzzo and 12 saves from goalkeeper Lauren Daly balanced the game in BC's favor and captured the win. Apuzzo and Daly both earned ACC Player of the Week nods following the effort at Syracuse.
The Minutewomen are in search of their eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament in nine seasons, returning their third-leading scorer from 2018 in junior Kaitlyn Cerasi. Despite losing their top-two scorers Holly Turner and Hannah Burnett, the team opened up their 2019 campaign with a statement win, 24-4, over Bryant. The pair combined for 171 points last season.
The teams met early last year, where BC pulled out with a 16-9 win. Turner led all scoring for the game, racking up five goals. Apuzzo followed closely behind with four herself while Kaileen Hart added three. The Eagles held the lead throughout the majority of the contest – the Minutewomen got on the board first, but three goals from Dempsey Arsenault, Emma Schurr and Cara Urbank within a 90-second span got the momentum rolling for BC.
The Eagles have taken each of the Bay State matchups since 2008, holding a 9-4 advantage all-time. The teams first met on March 30, 1993.
BC has a quick turnaround period following Thursday's contest, as they return home to host Harvard Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Newton Campus Fields.
