Eagles Battle to 64-57 win over Miami

Jordan Chatman becomes 44th member of BC's 1,000 point club
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- On a night where Boston College retired the jersey of one of the school's all-time greats in Bill Curley, the Eagles used a gritty defensive effort as the Eagles defeated Miami 64-57 Sunday night at Conte Forum.
The Eagles held Miami to 36.7 percent shooting on the night and just 4-of-26 shooting from three-point range.
It marked the first time in ACC history for Boston College the Eagles have held opponents in consecutive games to less than 58 points. BC defeated Pitt 66-57 in its last game prior to tonight's 64-57 win over the Hurricanes.
Boston College moved to 13-11 overall and 4-8 in the ACC while Miami dropped to 11-14 and 3-10 in conference play.
Jordan Chatman led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Nik Popovic added 15 points and equaled a career-high with 14 rebounds for the Eagles.
BC controlled the action throughout and led for over 35 minutes of game action and led by as many as 14 in the second half. The Eagles held a 40-31 advantage on the glass for the game, including a 19-10 advantage with second-chance points.
Boston College led 25-21 at halftime behind a strong first-half defensive performance. BC held Miami to 30 percent shooting from the field, including just 3-of-13 from behind the arc.
Jordan Chatman paced BC with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field in the opening 20 minutes. BC shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and held a 19-13 advantage on the glass.

2005: For the first time since 2005, Boston College has held back-to-back conference opponents to less than 58 points in a game. It marked the first time since Feb. 1, 2005 in a 62-50 win over West Virginia and a 60--52 victory over Seton Hall in consecutive conference games in the Big East.

- Ky Bowman's streak of 32 consecutive games in double-figures came to an end as the junior finished with eight points. Bowman gutted out the game, playing 39 minutes after having a fever of 102 degrees yesterday.
- Jordan Chatman entered the 1,000-point club at Boston College as he led the way with 17 points. He is the 44th member of Boston College's 1,000-point club with 1,002 points during his career at the Heights.
- Nik Popovic tallied his seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high tying 14 rebounds.
- Steffon Mitchell added nine points, six boards, two assists, and a blocked shot. Jared Hamilton and Chris Herren Jr. each tallied six points and five boards.
- The Eagles grabbed 10 offensive rebounds, accounting for 19 second-chance points.
- Boston College held both Pitt and Miami to just 57 points in both wins this week.
- Boston College retired the jersey of Bill Curley during a halftime ceremony. Curley became the seventh BC men's basketball player to have his jersey retired. Curley was a 1994 NABC All-American and two-time All-Big East First Team selection. He finished his career with 2,102 points and 996 rebounds – fourth-best in BC history in both statistical categories. Â
- The 1993-94 Boston College men's basketball team that advanced to the Elite Eight was also honored during the first half. Boston College spent 13 weeks on the Associated Press top 25 poll, reaching as high as No. 18. An at-large bid to the 1994 NCAA Tournament, BC was the No. 9 seed in the East region. After beating Washington State, 67-64, in the first round, before facing the No. 1 overall seed - North Carolina - in round two.
