
Giery Homers, Eagles Fall to Illinois

ATLANTA, GA – The Boston College softball team dropped its last game of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge to Illinois on Saturday afternoon by a score of 7-3.

How It Happened:

The Eagles wasted no time scoring in this one. Lexi DiEmmanuele started the game by reaching on a fielding error. Ellie Mataya reached on a throwing error, advancing to second base. With runners at second and third, Emme Martinez drove the next pitch to left field for an RBI single. In the ensuing at-bat, Gianna Boccagno ripped an RBI double to left field to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead.

The Fighting Illini got one back in the bottom half of the first inning, when Annie Fleming hit a two-out solo home run to right field to cut the lead to 2-1 in favor of BC.

Illinois loaded the bases with no outs to begin the bottom of the third inning. Bella Loya stepped to the plate and singled to center field to push across two runs. Later in the inning, Kailee Powell came to the plate with two runners on, and singled through the left side to drive in a pair. Katie Wingerter added a two-RBI single to center field to give Illinois a 7-2 lead after three innings.

Kristin Giery responded for the Eagles in the top of the fourth inning, hitting a solo home run to right center field, her first of the season, to cut the deficit to 7-3, which was your final in this one.
