
Seventh Inning Rally Falls Shoft for BC

AUSTIN, Texas – The Boston College softball team played the Northwestern State Lady Demons to a 9-5 loss on Sunday morning.
How It Happened:
The Eagles wasted no time jumping out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first inning. Jenna Ergle led the charge with a one-out walk, which was followed by Emme Martinez ripping her second double of the season. With two on and one out, in stepped catcher Gianna Boccagno, who poked a single trough the ride side to plate BC's first two runs of the season.
The Lady Demons responded in the bottom of the first, putting two runners on with one out. Riley Cantrell stepped to the plate and singled to the right side, scoring two NSU runners. CC Cook escaped the inning with a lineout and a groundout.
Skip ahead to the bottom of the second, where the Lady Demons put three runners on with no outs. Cantrell at the plate, a wild pitch was thrown that scored the go ahead run from third base. On the next pitch, Cantrell flied out to right field, and Jules Trevino threw out the runner attempting to tag to third base, ending the inning.
NSU extended its lead in the bottom of the third, after loading the bases with two outs. Hayley Barbazon forced a walk to score the fourth run of the game for the Lady Demons. With the bases still loaded and one out, NSU forced a walk and scored on a wild pitch to extend its lead, 6-2.
The Lady Demons started the bottom of the fifth inning with two walks and an infield single to load the bases with no outs. Kaitlyn St. Clair stepped to the plate and singled to the left side to score the runner from third. Cantrell added to her impressive day, collecting an RBI ground out to second base. NSU plated another run before being retired, taking a 9-2 lead into the top of the sixth inning.
The Eagles didn't go quietly. In the top of the seventh, Gianna Boccagno added to her stellar day at the dish, sending one over the center field fence, cutting the lead to 9-3. The next pitch hit Allyson Moore, and Kristin Giery ripped a double to the outfield wall in the following at bat. The Eagles were threatening with two on and only one out, when Carlie Sanders roped a triple down the right field line to plate two, and make the score 9-5. The Lady Demons retired the next two BC hitters to end the threat, and win the contest.
