No. 9 NC State Defeats Eagles, 72-54

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College fell to No. 9 NC State, 72-54, in the first ACC home game this season at Conte Forum. BC is now 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the ACC. NC State improved to 12-0 and 1-0 in the conference.
The Eagles were led by senior Emma Guy with 14 points, three rebounds and two steals, while sophomore Marnelle Garraud added 11 points with four assists. Sophomore Taylor Soule pitched in with six points and 10 rebounds and two blocks in the loss.
NC State had six players score in double-figures, including 14 points from Kai Crutchfield and 12 points and 10 rebounds from Elissa Cunane.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC fell behind 26-11 after the first quarter despite eight points from senior Emma Guy. NC State shot 67 percent from the floor and hit 3-of-5 from the three-point line in the quarter.
- Boston College held NC State to 10 points in the second quarter and cut the lead to eight points at the half, 36-28. BC shot 41 percent from the floor and forced the Wolfpack into eight turnovers. Marnelle Garraud had five points in the quarter as she hit one of the three-pointers for the Eagles in the quarter.
- The Eagles cut the lead to five points with 4:44 to play behind an out of bounds bucket from Taylor Soule. NC State responded behind an 8-2 run with all eight points from Aislinn Konig. BC continued to battle as Makayla Dickens jumper stopped the NC State run and the Eagles were down just 11 with one quarter to play, 56-45.
- A Cameron Swartz layup to start the fourth quarter and BC was down nine points, 56-47. That would be the closest the Eagles would get. NC State shot 46 percent from the floor while BC was held to six points and shot 29 percent in the quarter.
GAME NOTES
- Sophomore Taylor Soule had 10 rebounds. It was her third game in which she grabbed double-digits in rebounding. She has led the team in rebounding in seven games this season.
Soule is averaging a team-high 6.6 rebounds a game.
- Senior Emma Guy scored in double-digits for the ninth game with a team-high 14 points.
- Senior Taylor Ortlepp played 24 minutes and pitched in with five points. Ortlepp missed 10 games due to an injury. Her first game back was against Delaware State on Dec. 20.
- Sophomore Marnelle Garraud led BC with four assists. It was her seventh game this season she has led the team in assists. Despite being in foul trouble all day, Garraud pitched in with 11 points and went 3-for-3 from the three-point arc.
