No. 9 Eagles Defeat Demon Deacons, 2-0, in First Round of ACC Championships

NEWTON, Mass. – In the first round of the 2019 ACC Field Hockey Championships, the No. 9 Boston College field hockey team defeated No. 21 Wake Forest, 2-0, to advance to the second time since joining the ACC and first time since 2015.

Darcy Clement scored her first-career goal and Jaime Natale scored late in the fourth period to give the Eagles the 2-0 win.

Sarah Dwyer spent all 60 minutes in net, though didn't face a single shot the entire game. It was the lowest shot total since 2011, when the Eagles defeated Holy Cross, 6-0. Today's win marked her seventh shutout of the year, tying her for the fourth-most in a single season in BC history.

BC drew two penalty corners late in the first half, where Darcy Clement opened the scoring for the Eagles. Margo Carlin inserted the ball, where Clement laid it off for a blocked Fusine Govaert shot. Govaert then recovered the ball and passed to her right, where Clement hit a hard, driven shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The game would go scoreless for the next 30 minutes, before Jaime Natale found an open net in front off a Margo Carlin pass.

BC outshot the Demon Deacons, 10-0, while taking two penalty corners to Wake Forest's one.
