BC duo of Dillon and Richardson claim honors from Gridiron Club of Boston.
BOSTON – The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston announced its major awards Tuesday afternoon and Boston College running back AJ Dillon was recognized with the 81st annual George "Bulger" Award. BC linebacker Max Richardson was also recognized with the honor for his contributions on the Eagle defense.
Known as "New England's Heisman Trophy" and one of America's oldest college football accolades, the "Bulger" Award is given to New England's best offensive and defensive player in the NCAA Bowl Subdivision/Football Championship Subdivision.
Dillon, who broke the BC career rushing yard and touchdown records as a junior this season, previously claimed the award as a true freshman in 2017. This year marks the fifth consecutive year that an Eagle earned either the offensive or defensive honor from the Gridiron Club.
This season, Dillon is third in the nation and first in the ACC with 1,507 rushing yards; the sixth highest total in BC single-season history. He has scored 14 touchdowns, including 13 on the ground. Dillon has gone over 100 yards in seven of 11 games this season, including six over 150 yards and a season-high 223 against NC State.
For his career, Dillon has rushed for 4,204 yards and 37 touchdowns, while totaling 39 touchdowns; another BC record.
Richardson is third in the country and first in the ACC with 68 solo tackles. He leads the Eagles with 104 tackles, including 14.5 behind the line of scrimmage. Richardson has 3.5 sacks, has forced one fumble and been credited with two pass break-ups. In 38 career games, he has 213 tackles, 24.5 TFLs, 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Dillon and Richardson will be honored, along with other award winners, by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston at the annual Bob Whelan College Football Awards Night on Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Marriott Hotel in Burlington, Mass.
