Garraud Leads Eagles Past VCU, 87-52

Eagles improve to 4-2 with win over VCU.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore guard Marnelle Garraud recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 assists as Boston College defeated VCU, 87-52, in non-conference action at Conte Forum on Sunday afternoon.
Boston College is now 4-2 and will travel to Puerto Rico to play Charlotte and Tulane in a two-game tournament. VCU is now 2-3 and will play Nebraska-Omaha next.

TURNING POINT
- Boston College opened the game with a 12-2 run and took a 23-10 lead after the first quarter. The lead grew to 22 points at the half as the Eagles shot 70 percent from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A 12-2 run to start the game was sparked by a Cameron Swartz three-pointer and an old fashioned three-point play from Taylor Soule. In the run, Boston College had two blocks and out-rebounded VCU, 7-1. The Rams finally broke the drought with a layup with 4:17 to play. The Eagles pushed it to 15-4 behind a three by Makayla Dickens. The Eagles held a 23-10 lead after the first quarter behind 58.3 percent shooting from the floor and a 12-6 rebound edge.
- BC continued the pressure on defense while maintaining the hot shooting versus VCU. Swartz sparked another run to open the second quarter with five points as BC maintained a 10 point lead. The Eagles took a 45-23 lead at the half as they shot 82 percent from the floor in the quarter.
- A 9-5 run to open the third quarter pushed BC's lead to 54-28. Swartz had seven points and one assist during the run. The Eagles pushed the lead to 29 with 2:44 to play on a Milan Bolden-Morris three pointer. BC held a 66-39 lead after three when Bolden-Morris hit her second three-pointer of the quarter at the buzzer.
- BC's lead extended to 74-41 early in the quarter behind two three-pointers from Bolden-Morris. The lead grew to 78-43 behind a 12-4 run as VCU shot just 1-for-7 with 4:07 to play. Bolden-Morris scored all 19 of her points in the second half.
GAME NOTES
- Sophomore Marnelle Garraud finished the game with 12 points and a career-high 10 assists. It was also her first career double-double.
-Freshman Jaelyn Batts in her second career start finished with two points, three rebounds and a block.
- Five Eagles scored in double-figures. Junior Milan Bolden-Morris led the attack with 19 points, while Cameron Swartz added 15 points and Garraud contributed 12 points. Emma Guy and Makayla Dickens each had 11 points.
- Boston College led 45-23 and shot 69.6 percent from the floor at the half.

- Junior Milan Bolden-Morris had 19 points, one shy of her career-high. All 19 came in the second half. She also tallied five three-pointers. It is the fourth time she had hit five three-pointers in a game.
