
Naughton, Eagles Outlast Wake Forest

The volleyball team defeated Wake Forest, 3-1, to remain perfect in conference play
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team topped Wake Forest, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon to remain perfect in conference play. Junior Clare Naughton posted her first double-double of the season, tallying a career-best 19 kills and 10 digs while also adding four aces and four blocks. The win marks the first time in program history that the Eagles have hit the 4-0 mark in ACC play.
Next behind Naughton, senior Cat Balido added 11 kills while freshman Gabby McCaa put up seven with a .500 hitting percentage. Senior Carly Kutschke held a match-best .600, notching six kills of off 10 attempts with no errors. Makenzie Morrison matched Naughton's four aces, doubling her previous career-best of two. Setters Madison McKnight and Jane DeJarld played a balancing act on the assist effort with McKnight tallying 21 and DeJarld adding 20.
Junior Amaka Chukwujekwu paced the defensive front, recording two block solos and four assists to total a match-best of six. McCaa followed closely behind, adding a career-best five block assists. Freshman libero Torey Baum matched Naughton's 10 digs as Morrison and McKnight each added eight.
The Eagles improve to 13-4 on the season and 4-0 in conference play while the Demon Deacons fall to 11-4 overall and 1-3 in conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – Wake Forest hopped to an early 7-2 lead, backed by aces from Zoe Gonzales and Peyton Suess. The Eagles added three straight points including an ace and a kill from Naughton to push within two points, but the Demon Deacons answered back with two of their own. After trading points, Wake pushed ahead with back-to-back kills from Suess before allowing a three-point run for BC with two kills from Balido and an ace from Jill Strockis. The visitors answered again with three straight kills to go-ahead 16-10. The Eagles pushed for two more three-point runs but couldn't find the momentum to erase their deficit as Wake took the opening set, 25-20.
Set 2 – The teams found themselves tied at 2-all early before BC ran with a three-point streak, taking a 5-2 lead. Wake added two points to the next seven for the Eagles as BC pushed to a 13-5 lead before allowing another point for the Deacons. Another four-point stretch for the Eagles brought their advantage to 20-8 before Wake added two points. The Demon Deacons added a late rally of four points to find a 23-16 score but kills from Naughton and Balido sealed the win in BC's favor, 25-16.
Set 3 – The third set proved to be more evenly matched as Wake Forest pushed back from an early five-point deficit to tie the set at 22-all with two kills from Paige Sebesta and another from Suess. Balido put one down for the Eagles to force a Wake Forest timeout, but kills from Naughton and Strockis out of the stop capped the win for BC, 25-23.
Set 4 – BC jumped to an early 4-1 lead before allowing the Demon Deacons to push back and take a 9-8 lead.  A Wake Forest attacking error and another kill from Naughton put the Eagles back on top before hitting a four-point run to which the Deacons would never come back from. BC ended the match with nine of the last 12 points, taking the win on kills from McCaa and Kutschke, 25-16.

The Eagles remain home next weekend, welcoming Virginia and No. 4 Pitt to Chestnut Hill. BC will take on the Cavaliers at 7:30PM on Friday for BC's Dig Pink game before hosting the Panthers at 2:30PM on Sunday for Youth Day. Both matches will be featured on the ACC Network Extra.
