CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team rallied to earn their first home win over Duke in program history with a 3-1 match score on Friday evening in Power Gym. The win marks the best start to ACC play for the Eagles since joining the conference in 2005.

Classmate Clare Naughton came up closely behind, adding nine kills while senior Cat Balido and freshman Izzy Clavenna each added eight through the four-set match. Setters Jane DeJarld and Madison McKnight combined for 41 assists, as McKnight led the match with 22.
Defensively, Balido and classmate Carly Kutschke each added four block assists while Torey Baum put up 14 digs. The team hit with a .232 hitting percentage and aced nine serves, their best output in four sets this season. McKnight led all servers with four aces, marking a career-best.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – As the Blue Devils earned the first point of the match on a BC attack error, the Eagles wasted no time adding four straight points before allowing another from Duke. With a 4-1 lead, BC added six more points to go up 10-2. Duke came for three of their own before beginning to trade points with BC, as the Blue Devils tallied five of the last seven points but couldn't find the momentum shift needed to take the set. The Eagles earned a 1-0 match lead with a 25-19 win, capped with a block from Kutschke and Naughton.
Set 2 – Duke earned the first point again and held on, only allowing BC to come within two points halfway through the set. With a 12-8 lead over the Eagles, Duke tallied four straight and only allowed two from BC before adding three more. Duke took their one set win, 25-21, with a 4-2 point run on a BC attacking error.
Set 3 – The Blue Devils earned another opening point, but Naughton answered right back, leading to a four-point run for BC. Duke pushed within two points to put the BC lead at just 12-10 before the Eagles added four straight, forcing a Duke timeout. The Blue Devils added one point out of the stop but BC didn't lose momentum, rallying off five points en route to another Duke timeout with a 21-11 lead. The Eagles earned the set win, 25-15, with a kill from Kutschke and an ace from DeJarld, regaining the match lead.
Set 4 – The Eagles added the first points for the first time in the match, storming out to a 5-0 lead which the Blue Devils would never catch up to. The Eagles wouldn't allow Duke to score more than two consecutive points for the remainder of the set, adding two four-point runs to round out the match with a 25-15 deciding set score, capped with a kill from Clavenna.
