Dillon Named Semifinalist for 2019 Maxwell Award

Nation's fourth leading rusher among 20 candidates for national award
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Maxwell Football Club announced the 2019 semifinalists for the 83rd Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year on Tuesday. Boston College junior running back AJ Dillon was named one of 20 semifinalists for the prestigious award for the second consecutive year.

Dillon became Boston College's all-time leading rusher with 76 yards rushing at No. 2 Clemson on Oct. 26.

Dillon is fourth nationally in rushing yards (1,044) and rushing yards per game (130.5) in 2019. He is also fourth nationally with 147.8 yards per game from scrimmage in 2019.

Dillon broke the all-time BC rushing record in just three seasons. He became the first player in BC history to run for 1,000+ yards in each of his first three seasons at the Heights.Â

Dillon tied the BC record for career rushing touchdowns with his nine-yard TD run in the second quarter at Clemson. Dillon's first career touchdown came at Clemson in 2017 and his record-tying 34th career score came in Death Valley.Â

He is currently 13th in ACC history with 3,741 rushing yards. Looking ahead, Dillon needs 218 rushing yards this season to move into the top 10 in ACC history in rushing yards.

With two more 100-yard rushing games, Dillon would move into the top 10 in ACC history in career 100-yard rushing games.

Semifinalist voting will begin on Wednesday Oct. 30 and will close on Nov. 24. Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 25 and a second round of voting will take place at that time. Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA head football coaches, sports information directors and selected national media.

The winners of the 83rd Maxwell Award and the 25th Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show presented by Gildanwhich will be broadcast live on ESPN on Dec. 12, 2019.

The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Dinner on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Tropicana Casino & Resort in Atlantic City, N.J.
