No. 25 Virginia Tech Rallies to Top Eagles

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Gaby Carreiro scored her fourth goal of the season for the Boston College women's soccer team but the No. 25 Virginia Tech Hokies scored twice in the final 15 minutes for a 2-1 win on Thursday night at Thompson Field.
Maddie Murphy made three first half saves to send the teams into halftime in a scoreless tie, and then Carreiro's 70th minute tally gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Kelsey Irwin, though, took advantage of two free kicks and tied the game in the 76th minute before sending in the game-winning goal in the 84th.
The Eagles will remain on the road, heading to top-ranked Virginia for a game against the Cavaliers on Sunday, Oct. 27.

- 70' | Gianna Mitchell sent a long ball over the top and Olivia Vaughn and Sam Smith worked together to win the 50-50 ball. Vaughn dribbled down the middle of the field and as she hit the top of the box, slipped a pass to Carreiro on the left side. Carreiro took a touch before putting a high shot to the far post and under the crossbar.
- 76' | From 22 yards out and up from the left post, Irwin sent in a free kick over the wall and into the upper left corner of the net.
- 84' | Irwin sent a free kick in from about 25 yards out, curling it into the upper left corner of the net.
- Boston College has a record of 8-5-3 in the all-time series with Virginia Tech ... the Eagles are 4-2-2 on the road against the Hokies.
