Eagles Fall to Seminoles

The volleyball team forced extra points in two sets, but ultimately fell to Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Boston College volleyball team put up an impressive showing, forcing extra points in two sets before ultimately falling to Florida State, 3-0, on Friday evening in Tully Gym. Jewel Strawberry tallied a match-best 16 kills while Amaka Chukwujekwu led with five blocks.
The Eagles hit at a .244 as a team while Strawberry, Chukwujekwu (eight kills) and Cat Balido (eight kills) paced the offensive effort. Jane DeJarld and Makenzie Morrison each aced two serves while BC totaled eight to Florida State's three. Setter Madison McKnight led the match in assists, setting up 25 of her teammates' points.
Defensively, Chukwujekwu led all players in the blocking game while Strawberry and Balido each added two. Torey Baum (14 digs), Strawberry (nine digs) and Jill Strockis (five digs) kept the ball off of the ground for the Eagles as Baum led the match in digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 - Back-to-back blocks from Chukwujekwu and Strawberry gave BC the opening two points, but a five-point run for the Seminoles gave the home team the early lead, 5-2. Chukwujekwu tallied again to begin a trade-off of points, allowing BC to pull back within one. FSU added multiple two-point rallies to push to a 17-12 advantage. After trading off once again, a 6-1 point run for BC tied the set at 23-23. A kill from Strawberry tied it at 24-24 before the Seminoles capped the win with a kill from Payton Caffrey, 26-24.
Set 2 - The set was evened at 5-5 before the Seminoles added four straight points to go up, 9-5. The Eagles, however, jumped right back with five of their own to gain the lead, 10-9. Back-and-forth mini runs from both teams found the score knotted at 14-14. FSU added two points to each of BC's scores for the remainder of the set, finding a 21-20 lead and adding four straight points to take the set win, 25-20.
Set 3 - The Eagles began on top, tallying the first three points of the third set with two kills from Strawberry and one from Carly Kutschke. The momentum continued as BC found themselves up, 13-9, before allowing three straight points from FSU to pull within one. Another run for the Seminoles brought their lead to 19-15, then again to 22-17. A rally from the Eagles tied the set at 24-24. FSU was first to 25 after another kill from Caffrey, but Chukwujekwu tied it back up before Gabby McCaa added an ace to take the lead, 26-25. The teams traded two-point rallies, but back-to-back kills from Taryn Knuth and Caffrey earned the win for the Seminoles, 31-29.
