The volleyball team hits the road for two in the Sunshine State
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team (14-5, 5-1 ACC) jumps back on the road this weekend as the team heads south to continue ACC action against Florida State (10-5, 4-2 ACC) and Miami (7-7, 3-3 ACC). Both matches will be available to watch on the ACC Network Extra.
The Eagles continued their two-week home stretch with a split weekend in Power Gym, finding their fifth ACC win in a sweep over Virginia before falling to No. 3 Pitt. Against the Cavaliers, Amaka Chukwujekwu paced the match, leading in kills (12), hitting percentage (.611) and blocks (4). Following the weekend, Chukwujekwu pushed her way into the top 10 nationally in hitting percentage, averaging a .440 clip, coming in at ninth in the country and second in the ACC.
On Sunday, the Eagles held the third-ranked Panthers to their narrowest margin of victory all season. Despite dropping the match in straight sets, the Eagles were within at least three points at the end of each - totaling just a seven point differential for the match. The Panthers topped then- No. 16 Utah by just seven points earlier in the season. Jewel Strawberry paced the Eagles, tallying a match-best 14 kills, one ace and three blocks. Chukwujekwu also starred, totaling seven blocks with three solos.
The Seminoles were a nationally-ranked contender just last week, but fell out of the standings after dropping a five-set battle to North Carolina. FSU started off non-conference play hot, earning a major win over then-No. 3 Minnesota in three sets. The Eagles have only topped FSU once in program history: a five-set battle in Chestnut Hill on Oct. 13, 2007.
Miami holds onto just a 7-7 record, but has tallied three strong conference wins over Wake Forest, Duke and Virginia. BC's lone win over Miami also occurred in Chestnut Hill in 2007. The Eagles took the win in a sweep on Oct. 12, just one day before the win over the Seminoles.
The Eagles continue their season on the road the following week, heading to take on North Carolina and NC State on Oct. 25 and 27.
