
Eagles Fall to #4/1 Virginia in Home ACC Opener

Ky Bowman knocks down four 3-pointers en route to scoring 15 points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Top-ranked Virginia stopped Boston College's winning streak at three versus No. 1 teams as the Cavaliers defeated the Eagles 83-56 Wednesday night at Conte Forum. BC had won its previous three meetings against the nation's top-ranked team before Wednesday's setback to the Cavaliers.
Virginia improved to 14-0 overall and 2-0 in ACC play while the Eagles dropped to 9-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
UVA shot 56% from the field including five treys in the first half to take a 43-31 advantage into the break. Redshirt junior forward Mamadi Diakite led the Cavaliers with 14 points in the first half on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
The top-ranked Cavaliers held a 20-11 advantage on the boards and outscored BC 24-14 in the paint in the first half.
Boston College remained in striking distance in the first half as junior guard Ky Bowman led the Eagles with 11 points. Bowman connected on three triples in the opening 20 minutes of play.
BC started the second half cutting the 12-point halftime deficit to six at 45-39 after a three-pointer from Nik Popovic, but Virginia's De'Andre Hunter's three-pointer pushed the lead back to nine with 16:05 to play.
Virginia used a 17-2 run to extend its advantage to 21, 62-41, with nine minutes remaining. The Cavaliers finished the second half outscoring BC 40-25.
ÂINSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Ky Bowman finished with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Â He was 5-of-12 from the floor (4-7 3FG) in 38 minutes of action.
- It was Bowman's 23rd straight game in double figures and his 18th career game with at least four 3-pointers.
- Nik Popovic led BC with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. The junior was 1-of-2 from behind the arc and added three rebounds for the Eagles.
- Bowman and Popovic were the only Eagles in double-figures.
- Jairus Hamilton corralled six rebounds to lead BC.
- Wynston Tabbs returned to the lineup after missing much of the last two games due to injury. He had nine points in 27 minutes.
- Steffon Mitchell did not dress due to injury.
- BC shot 39% (22-57) from the floor, including 7-of-25 from the perimeter and 5-of-9 from the foul line.

46 - The Eagles yielded 46 points in the paint to Virginia. BC scored 26 of its 56 from inside the paint
ÂFOR THE ANALYTICS CROWD:
Two players reached double-digits in efficiency, led by Nik Popovic's 12. Ky Bowman registered a mark of 11. Efficiency rating is calculated using the following formula: (PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK - Missed Shots - TO). Bowman recorded a 45 despite a season-high seven turnovers.Â
