
Eagles Fall To Georgia Tech, 81-76

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's basketball team fell to Georgia Tech, 81-76, in the first ACC matchup of the season at Conte Forum on Thursday night.

Boston College is now 11-3 and 0-1 in the conference, while Georgia Tech is 11-3 and 1-0 in the ACC. Â BC will host NC State on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will host Notre Dame on Sunday.

The Eagles battled all night as Georgia Tech held a 55-49 lead going into the final stanza. BC cut the lead to five points early in the quarter off a three-pointer by Taylor Ortlepp. Georgia Tech pushed the lead to 12 points but BC would chip away.Â

A long jumper from Milan Bolden-Morris with 24 seconds left made it a six-point game, 77-71. After two free throws from Georgia Tech, Sydney Lowery hit a three-pointer with 16 seconds left on the clock. Georgia Tech would hit two more foul shots down the stretch to seal the win.

BC lost the battle of the boards as Georgia Tech dominated the Eagles, 55-30. The Yellow Jackets had 23 offensive rebounds and scored 18 second-chance points. Georgia Tech also had 24 fast-break points to the Eagles' 14.

Boston College was led by junior Georgia Pineau with 22 points and six rebounds. Freshman Makayla Dickens chipped in with 15 points, while Ortlepp had 13 points.

BC finished the game with 18 assists, five from Pineau. Georgia Tech had 23 turnovers and converted 19-of-24 foul shots in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Quarter – Boston College went down, 22-16, in the first quarter after shooting just 29 percent from the floor. Georgia Tech shot 50 percent from the floor and held a 17-6 rebound advantage after one quarter.

2nd Quarter – The Yellow Jackets built a 10-point lead behind hot shooting as BC's offense sputtered. Junior Georgia Pineau kept BC in the game hitting a layup on an up and under to keep BC within four. The Eagles scraped and caused six turnovers and cut the lead to three points on two freebies from PIneau and a driving layup by Dickens. Georgia Tech hit a foul shot then stole the ball which led to a layup at the buzzer to take a 39-31 lead at the half.

3rd Quarter – BC continued to battle in the second half. The Eagles hit 2-of-4 from long range and shot 53 percent from the floor as they cut into the Georgia Tech lead, 55-49, with one quarter to play. Makayla Dickens had seven points and Taylor Ortlepp had four in the quarter.

4th Quarter – BC outscored Georgia Tech by just a point in the final stanza, 27-26. The Eagles hit 5-of-10 from the three-point line and shot 50 percent from the floor in the quarter. Again, Georgia Tech won boards it had 16 rebounds in the quarter, seven on the offensive glass. Pineau had eight points in the quarter while Ortlepp and Lowery pitched in with six each.
