BC Closes Road Trip With Pair at No. 13 Arizona State

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Boston College closes its winter break trip with a two-game series against 13th-ranked Arizona State for just the second and third meetings in series history on Friday (Jan. 4) and Saturday (Jan. 5) at 9 p.m. (ET). The Saturday game at Gila River Arena will be televised on Pac-12 Network, and both games can be heard live on WEEI 850 AM and BCEagles.com. BC's last non-conference win came against Arizona State on Nov. 13, 2016 in Chestnut Hill.
RING IN THE NEW YEAR
• Sixth-ranked Notre Dame skated past Boston College 4-0 on New Year's Eve at the Compton Family Ice Arena as Cale Morris stopped all 20 shots he faced for the shutout in the Irish net
• The Fighting Irish (12-5-1) scored twice in the span of 34 seconds midway through the first period before adding an insurance goal and empty-netter in the third
• Boston College hit the post or crossbar four times on the night, including twice in the third period from forwards Marc McLaughlin and Graham McPhee
• JD Dudek rang the crossbar in the first period while the game was scoreless, and Casey Fitzgerald found iron with a one-timer from the high slot in the second
• Defenseman Luke McInnis led the team with four shots on goal

• Arizona State is ranked 13th in both national polls and enters the weekend 14-7-1 overall through 22 games this season
• The Sun Devils hosted the Desert Hockey Classic just before New Year's at Gila River Arena, falling to eventual champion Clarkson 3-0 (snapping their four-game winning streak) and tying Minnesota State 2-2
• Johnny Walker leads the nation in goals per game with 18, including eight on the power play, while Tyler Busch has a team-high 12 assists

• Rookie forward Oliver Wahlstrom was selected to the 2019 U.S. National Junior Team to compete in the IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver and Victoria, B.C.
• Wahlstrom had three goals and an assist in Team USA's two pre-tournament games and followed with a goal and two assists during preliminary round play as the U.S. went 3-1-0
• Team USA will face Russia in the WJC Semifinal on Friday night at 4 p.m. (ET) after beating the Czech Republic 3-1 in the Quarterfinal
• The 11th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders has four goals and an assist in 14 games in his freshman campaign and ranks second on the team with 45 shots on goal
• The U.S. has medaled in three straight World Junior Championships for the first time in team history after earning gold in 2017 and bronze in 2018 and 2016
