Eagles Fall at St. John’s 5-2 in Spring Opener

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Boston College men's tennis team opened its 2019 spring season on Friday night with a 5-2 loss to St. John's at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Eagles won the doubles point over the Johnnies, who responded by winning five of the six singles matches.

Following a 6-3 victory for Chris Grasel and Max Palmer from the No. 2 slot, Derek Austin and Sean Mullins clinched the doubles point with a tight 7-5 victory over Alan Nunez Aguilera and Aditya Vashistha.

Austin defeated Luka Sucevic in straight sets (6-1, 7-5) from the No. 1 singles position, but the Eagles dropped three different singles matchups in a decisive third set as St. John's clinched the match early on Saturday morning.

BC returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 29) at home against UConn at 4 p.m.
