
Eagles Begin Spring Season Against St. John's and UConn

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's tennis team opens its spring season on the road against St. John's on Friday (Jan. 25) in New York at 7 p.m. before returning to the Heights to host UConn next Tuesday (Jan. 29) at 4 p.m. Live results of all home matches are available at BCEagles.com.
FALL RECAP
Three different Eagles were champions of their respective singles draws at the Connecticut State Championship, hosted by Yale in early November at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The Eagles will see several opponents from the event in their first two spring matches.Â

Conor Mullins was the winner of the Marc Powers draw without losing a single set. The graduate student's dominant performance took him past Dartmouth's Sacha Pritzker (6-1, 6-2), Quinnipiac's Hielke Moore (6-3, 6-4), and Igor Maslov of St. John's (6-3, 6-1).Â
Santiago Montufar also claimed all three singles matches of his section in straight sets. Montufar bested UConn's Christian Provenzano (6-2, 6-3), Marist's Kian Yazdi (6-2, 6-2), and Fairfield's Arnas Sabonis (6-2, 7-6) to clinch the Jay Rossello Draw.

Chris Grasel won the Zach Dean draw, defeating UConn's Yili Zheng (6-3, 6-3) and Dartmouth's Sidd Chari (3-6, 6-4, 10-4) in the first two rounds. The Brazilian closed by narrowly edging Alan Nunez of St. John's in a tiebreaker 6-4, 3-6, 11-9.

Montufar combined with Max Mendelsohn to win the Brandon Wai Draw in doubles competition following three close matches.Â
BC also competed in a pair of fall events at Brown, including a pairs competition at the Brown Invitational in October. The team of juniors Derek Austin and Sean Mullins advanced to the Flight I championship match before falling to Charles Tan and Roger Chau of Brown 2-1.
UP NEXT
The Eagles host Boston University and Southern New Hampshire next weekend on Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Flynn Recreation Complex.
