Eagles Open Spring Season with 6-1 Win Over Dartmouth
January 19, 2019 | Women's Tennis
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College earned a convincing 6-1 home victory over Dartmouth on Saturday to open the 2019 spring season at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The Eagles won five of the six singles matches against the Big Green, while Jackie Urbinati and Kylie Wilcox clinched the doubles point.
"We are happy to earn our first win of the season against a very well coached Dartmouth team," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "We have been working really hard in practice and it is really exciting to get the season started. I thought many of our players were a little tight at the beginning of their matches but we settled down nicely. It was terrific watching Yufei and Laura get their first BC team wins. Now we need to get ready for Brown on Monday."
Iowa transfer Yufei Long and freshman Laura Lopez combined to win their doubles match 6-1, and each player posted her first career singles victory for BC. Long beat Racquel Lyn in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, while Lopez came back to defeat Nina Paripovic.
Wilcox and Urbinati also won in comeback style after dropping the first set in their singles matches, and Natasha Irani didn't lose a single game against Nicole Conrad in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph. Â
