Emma Guy Posts Double-Double In Loss to FSU, 91-71
January 17, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Guy tallied 24 points, 12 rebounds in tough home loss.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior forward Emma Guy registered her second double-double of the season – seventh of her career – with 24 points and 12 rebounds as Boston College (13-5, 2-3 ACC) fell to No. 21 Florida State, 91-71, on Thursday evening at Conte Forum.
Â
Leading three Eagles in double figures, Guy shot 50 percent from the floor (nine-for-18), while knocking down 6-of-9 from the charity stripe. Junior guard Taylor Ortlepp continued to stay sharp from the outside, netting 12 of her 18 points from beyond the arc, while junior Georgia Pineau chipped in 12 points.
Â
Setting the tone offensively for the Eagles, Ortlepp was nearly perfect from the floor, netting 4-of-5, for 10 points to keep Boston College within striking distance, trailing by only eight, after the first quarter.
Â
Freshman guard Makayla Dickens cut the Seminole deficit to single digits late in the second quarter, however FSU (15-2, 3-1 ACC) answered with a quick five points to extend its lead back to double figures. The Seminoles knocked down back-to-back buckets in the last two minutes to head into the intermission with the 47-31 advantage.Â
Â
The Eagles came out strong at the start of the third quarter. Dickens and classmate Marnelle Garraud netted back-to-back jumpers to cut into the Seminole lead. The teams exchanged baskets for a majority of the quarter, as FSU held a 66-50 lead going into the final stanza.
Â
Ortlepp drained her fourth three-pointer of the game 1:20 into the final period to cut the deficit to 11 – the closest the Eagles pulled to in the half. But the Seminoles responded, building their lead back with a 7-0 run and never turned back.
