The field hockey team looks toward their first home contests of the season, Friday vs. Wake Forest and Sunday vs. Albany
NEWTON, Mass.: The No. 13 Boston College field hockey team opens up both home and conference play with an Alumni Weekend event, beginning Friday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. vs. No. 18 Wake Forest and concluding Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against No. 25 Albany.
The Eagles are coming off of a tough weekend as they went 0-2 in College Park, Maryland, during the annual ACC/B1G Cup. They were defeated by both No. 3 Maryland and No. 9 Northwestern, both contests ending with a score of 3-2. Senior captain Frederique Haverhals found the back of the net off of penalty corner opportunities in both contests of the tournament. Graduate student Brooke Matherson and freshman Sky Caron contributed goals as well. Caron's first career goal came with just 4.8 seconds remaining in regulation against Northwestern, forcing overtime for the Eagles.
The Deacons hold a 17-4 record all-time over the Eagles. Boston College's first win came in 2010 with a 3-2 score. The Deacons came out on top in their last meeting, shutting out the Eagles 3-0 in 2017. The teams have met in the ACC Championships six times over their histories, with Wake Forest earning the win five out of the six times. The Eagles have won most recently, as they found a 4-3 final score in a double overtime win in the 2015 ACC Tournament. The Eagles have been stronger at home, having won three of their seven home matches, and falling in all eight contests on the Deacon's home turf.
Sunday will be the fourth time that Boston College and Albany meet. The Eagles remain untouched over the Great Danes, going 3-0 all-time. Two of their three matches have been forced into overtime: in 2007, ending in a 2-1 win for the Eagles, and in 2017, seeing double overtime with another 2-1 win. Â
