Eagles' Three Goals Secure Shutout Over Fairfield
September 30, 2018 | Field Hockey
Two from Brooke Matherson and Emily Buttinger's first of the season led the Eagles to a 3-0 win over Fairfield
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The No. 9 Boston College field hockey team continued their now-four game win streak as they defeated Fairfield on the road, 3-0, Sunday afternoon. The Eagles were well-rested after a week with no contest, as graduate student Brooke Matherson recorded two goals in the first half and junior Emily Buttinger found her first goal of the season.
Matherson first capitalized off of a corner, as the initial shot from sophomore Fusine Govaert was blocked and hopped into the air. Matherson tapped it in while it was in the air and pushed it past Fairfield goalkeeper Zoe Rosen.
Her second goal came through a bit of chaos in front of the net, finding the final shot after some quick Eagle passing moves.
After being in the right spot at the right time, Buttinger's goal came off of a hard push on a rebound from a shot made by Elizabeth Warner. Buttinger's goal finalized the scoring from both sides for the afternoon.
Boston College dominated offensively, recording eight shots in the second half while Fairfield recorded none. At the end of the contest, the Eagles had a 15-4 advantage on shots. They also earned seven corner opportunities while only giving one to Fairfield.
