
Eagles Edged by No. 20 Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind.– The Boston College men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at conference opponent No. 20 Notre Dame on Friday night. Despite a combined 27 fouls and 12 corner kicks over the match, the lone goal of the game was notched by the Irish.

The ACC contest was scoreless for the first throughout the first half, as Notre Dame continued to keep their opponents scoreless during their opening halves this season.

Notre Dame led 2-1 in shots, but none of the total three made it on-goal throughout the first half. The Irish earned four corner kicks while the Eagles found one, but neither team could find the back of the net. Notre Dame was called off-sides four times in the first half.

Goalkeeper Antonio Chavez Borrelli punched out the one promising Irish shot off of a free kick, keeping the scoreboard empty for the remainder of the opening half.Â
The game was decided by an early-second half goal from Notre Dame's Aiden McFadden. He swerved his way through the BC defense and notched his third of the year into the back-right corner of the net past Chavez Borrelli. Jack Casey tallied an assist on the lone goal of the game.

Chavez Borrelli finished with one save, while Irish goalkeeper Ryan Krutz recorded none. The only two shots on goal of the night were recorded by Notre Dame.
The Eagles played the final minutes of the match with just 10 men after Lasse Lehmann was booked with a red card. BC had an additional yellow card, while Notre Dame had two yellows throughout the game.

Boston College continues conference play with a 7 p.m. matchup with NC State back home in Newton on Friday, Oct. 5.
