August 31, 2018 | Women's Soccer
The 5-0 Eagles host the Red Raiders on Saturday night at 7
The Boston College women's soccer team is in the midst of a five-game win streak. The Eagles will host No. 21 Texas Tech on Saturday night at 7 p.m. It is the first ranked team BC has played this season.
The Eagles 5-0 record is the best start to a season since BC went 9-0-1 in 2016. BC opened that season at 5-0.
More impressive is the defense. BC has not allowed a goal since the first half of the first game against Quinnipiac. The Eagles have held opponents to just 6.6 shots per game while allowing only two goals.
Goalkeeper Alexis Bryant has a 0.44 goals against average, 10 saves, .833 save percentage and a 5-0 record. Along with Bryant the defense in front of her has been outstanding - Rachel Newborough, Erin Convery, Kayla Duran, Gianna Mitchell, Elysa Virella, Jade Ruiters, Mijke Roelfsema and Kayla Jennings have helped keep the slate clean.
Offensively, three players are on fire. Sophomore Sam Coffey was named the Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week with a nine-point week (2 games, 3 goals, 3 assists) in two victories. She has tallied a point in the last four games and a goal in the last three.
Sophomore teammate Gianna Mitchell was named to the TDS Team of the Week honorable mention for her two goals vs. Albany. She had another header off a corner kick goal on Wednesday against Stony Brook.
