Quinnipiac Awaits Eagles in Season Opener

Fourth consecutive year the teams meet in the first game of the season
The Eagles' game against the Bobcats marks the fourth consecutive season that the two teams will battle in the season opener.

BC IN SEASON OPENERS
• The Eagles are 17-11-2 all-time in season openers under head coach Ed Kelly.
• This is the fourth consecutive season that Quinnipiac and BC will meet in the season-opener and fifth time since 2012, with the Eagles taking all of those meetings.
• BC has not lost a season-opener since 2009, going 7-1 since a 1-0 loss at Rhode Island on Sept. 1, 2009.
• Boston College and Quinnipiac have met 12 times, with the Eagles holding an edge of 10-1-1 in the all-time series.
• Boston College has shut out Quinnipiac in the last four meetings (4-0 at home in 2017, 2-0 at QU in 2016, 1-0 at home in 2015, 2-0 at QU in 2014).
• This marks the 10th consecutive season that the Bobcats and Eagles will do battle and the fourth straight in the respective season-opener for each squad.
• The teams have met every year since 2005, except 2008.
A WIN OVER QUINNIPIAC WOULD . . .
• Bump BC's edge in the all-time series against the Bobcats to 11-1-1.
• Give BC its fourth consecutive season-opening win.
• Move the Eagles to an 17-11-2 record in season-openers under head coach Ed Kelly.
• Quinnipiac, who was tabbed to finish fourth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, went 8-9-2 overall in 2017.
• Defender Conor McCoy earned a spot on the 2018 Preseason All-MAAC team after earning All-MAAC Second Team after the 2017 season.
• Additionally, goalkeeper Chrysostomos Iakovidis returns for a third season while Eamon Whelan and Rashawn Dally provide All-MAAC honors at forward.
• The Bobcats played a two-game preseason slate, taking on Northeastern and Bryant.
2018 SCHEDULE BY THE NUMBERS
• The Eagles will play seven regular season matches at home in 2018.
• Six opponents – all from the ACC – appeared in the United Soccer Coaches' Preseason Poll.
• Seven of BC's opponents reached the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
• BC's longest homestand of the season is three games (Clemson, Sept. 7; Holy Cross, Sept. 11; Louisville, Sept. 14).
• This is the 10th consecutive season in which BC will play non-conference foe Harvard.
2018 EAGLES AT A GLANCE
• BC added 13 new faces to the 2018 roster, with 10 rookies and three transfers coming to Chestnut Hill.
• The 30-man roster for head coach Ed Kelly is the program's largest ever since BC joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005.
• Joe Kellett, David Longo and Ronaldinho Diniz all come to The Heights with collegiate soccer experience.
• Four of the top five scorers from a season ago return, including 2017 leading-scorer Simon Enstrom.
• The roster is balanced with 15 upperclassmen (seven seniors, eight juniors) and 15 underclassmen (five sophomores, 10 freshman).
2018 CAPTAINS
• The Eagles will be led by the trio of Joshua Forbes, Simon Enstrom and Heidar Aegisson in 2018.
• Forbes is now in his second year serving as captain after first receiving the armband in 2017 as a junior.
• Enstrom and Aegisson are first-year captains.
ENSTROM CLIMBING BC CAREER CHARTS
• Entering his senior season, Simon Enstrom is already starting his climb up the BC career scoring charts
• With 56 career points (22 goals, 12 assists), he is now tied for ninth on the Eagles' career scoring chart, tied with Kyle Bekker '13 and Sherron Manswell.
• Additionally, his 22 goals are tied for seventh on the Eagles' all-time chart with Manswell.
31 FOR KELLY
• The 2018 season marks head coach Ed Kelly's 31st at Boston College, and his 34th overall season of coaching.
• Kelly has complied an overall career record of 317-240-66, including three seasons at Seaton Hall, and owns a record of 277-227-60 at Boston College.
• His 277 wins at Boston College rank him first on BC's all-time list.
• His 100th career win came at Hartford on Sept. 17, 1994 his 200th over Yale on Oct. 12, 2005 and his 300th over Syracuse on Oct. 30, 2015.
• Kelly has guided the Eagles to 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 10 since 2000 – (1990, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016)
• Under Kelly, the Eagles established a program-best 18 wins during the 2002 season.
CALLUM ALL-ACADEMIC
• Junior midfielder Callum Johnson was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's Men's Soccer All-ACC Academic Team at the conclusion of the 2017 season.
• Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career
• In 2017, Johnson appeared in all 17 of the Eagles' games, finishing second on the team in scoring with 11 points from four goals and three assists.
